Do You Or Someone Close To You Have Problems With Alcohol?

How To Take Care Of Your Problem With Alcohol

Does he have the right to refuse selling me alcohol?

Yesterday i went to buy some alcohol at a 7-11. I gave him my military ID and he asked me if i had another form of ID. I told him no. I just moved to Illinois from Hawaii and i lost my drivers license. I do not have a state ID.

After looking at my ID which seemed like FOREVER....he told me he would give me "one month to get a state ID....or else" he put it under some ID fake tester thing, tried to see if he could pull it apart, and looked closesly at the picture to see if it was me. he was also very rude.

I was very upset that this person treated me this way.
I think he thought I was giving him a fake. It made me so angry. I give my service to my country, and someone thinks im lying about it?

there is not a military base in Chicago, so i understand if he is not familiar with looking at one.

But shouldn't these people be trained in different forms of acceptable Identification?
and do you think it is fair for him to give me a "timeline" to get another form of identification or he won't sell me alcohol?

All opinions welcome as long as they are not rude.

Unfortuntatly he does have the right to refuse. Alcohol is a privalidge not a right and therefore anyone selling it can pretty much say no to whoever they want.
He should be trained to be able to accept all forms of acceptable ID, although with that being said, what you dont see often can take you more type to go through and make sure its real.

Unfortunately a lot of people in retail do not accept a US military license as part of valid ID. It really depends, mostly it's due to the fact it's not a common ID. another factor is that some people just can't tell if it's a real ID or if it's a fake.

Any establishment usually has a sign stating they reserve the right to refuse service for ANY reason. 7-11 might only accept state issued ID's and have every right in doing so. Yes he has the right to refuse you alcohol, however go down the street and your probably won't have the same problem since its the server/clerk's discrepancy on what form of ID to accept.

His manager store/owner would be interested to know the treatment you received. Complain in person and in uniform. Tell the boy behind the counter that you do not take ultimatums, you issue them. Thanks for your service.

He had every right. you don't have to be 21 to join the military, plus a state ID is the only proof accepted of your age. Selling to a minor can be a very big fine. I still would have socked him though for being so rude to a soldier

well the man prob didnt want to risk his job and he has the right to refuse you sale of alcohol. but he did seem to very rude that is why i think you should spend your hard earned $$$$$ elsewhere

He had every right to do that. People who sell alcohol to underage people can be fined big fines.

Don't go back to that 7/11.

Well he does have the right to not sell you alcohol. he is probably just trying to protect his job and his attitude is really his problem. I have the same problem all the time with my ID as it has been punched so I can't drive but is still valid as ID. you just have to find somewhere else to get your juice and don't let it get you down :P

What a Nazis! he had no right to do that to your Military ID. As far as whether he had the right or not to do that, if he's the owner than unfortunately he has the right to refuse service. If he was just some clerk, with a haughty sense of himself, then I would complain to the owner or his manager. Only a cop can do something like that, but you really should get a better ID, and not one like McLoven.

Thank you so much for your service to our country. I really appreciate that so much !!

You did not mention if he refused to sell you alcohol then, or a month from now (his ID deadline) ?

Some business (believe it or not) do not accept military ID as valid IDs. They have corporate policies that say they can't.

I think he was also being cautious to protect himself and his business (there are all kinds of people out there using fake IDs).

Don't take it personally - try to get a state ID if possible.

Peace.

Unfortunately, even in this situation, the person at the counter does have the right to refuse any sale for any reason, especially in the case of alcohol or other age restricted products. Even though you would think that military ID would be easily acceptable and recognizable, many convenience and liquor store employees are only used to looking at their own state ID's, and may even refuse an ID from another state just because they aren't familiar with what other ID's are supposed to look like. I personally see military ID's every day, and I am used to them, but if I wasn't, then even I would have to scrutinize every detail of it and decide whether to take it.

He didn't have to be rude, and I'm sorry he was, but especially in this economy, it's just not worth losing a job and costing yourself and your boss thousands of dollars if there's even a chance that any ID might not be a legal government card, state or otherwise. I hope you have better treatment in the future, at a different store perhaps. and thank you for your service. I appreciate it.

How will I find a low-cost alcohol rehab in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey?

My best friend is a self-confessed alcohol dependent for over two years now. He really wants to change for the better and we both agreed that he should enter a rehab center. the catch is that he doesn't have the money and so do I. does anyone know of an affordable one?

Sure, it's called jail.

Good news! I actually found a site where you can find information on how your friend avail of a government grant to enter a rehab center. just visit the first link that I provided. the second link will help you find drug rehab centers. Drop by one near your place and inquire if they offer discounts. I hope that your friend gets treated ASAP.

Not funny response # 1. try his family, I am sure if he's bad, they would be more than willing to help. it cost my parents 30, 000 to dry my brother out... good Luck w/ that. Might try AA too - local meetings EVERYDAY!!! And they are free, but they mean business. look em up on the web for your local meetings. you can go too and be supportive.

try clinilabs they have research study programs that offer those things in your area. also look into hospitals. i know that columbia university has programs like that but thats in manhatten. hospitals in your area call information and ask them about it. good luck

My mother runs a Mother's against Meth-Amphetamine chapter here in the Atlanta, GA metro...
so I don't know ALOT but I know a little.

Its a plus on your side that he's a male. It's harder to find treatment for adult females... here atleast.

And yes it is very difficult to find a rehab. they like to keep "low."

I suggest you try and find an organization that directs people to rehabs and gives you options, rather than just calling rehab after rehab.

It's gonna be hard finding one but well worth it.

If he has insurance it will be much better... if not. you might be able to find a rehab that can put him on a financial plan.

Just sharing a little info.
I know not much but I hope it helps

Contact your local hospital and ask them for a Social Worker.
Your friend may have to go in and explain this to a physician who can make the referral for a social worker.
A social worker will know your friend's available options and will know which facilities have openings for new patients.
